Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on the 9th of August, 1963, in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney started singing with the choir of the church when she was a young child. at the age of 15, she joined her mom in the background vocals for Chaka's hit Im Every Woman from 1978.
