Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musically inclined family on 9 August 1963. She was born in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singer Dionne Warwick.
